Thilo Named Freshman of the Week
Wingate, N.C.-- Mars Hill attacker Taylor Thilo has been named the Deep South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Thilo tallied six goals and eight assists in two games for Mars Hill last week. He scored three goals and handed out four assists in a 17-7 victory at Queens. He tallied three goals and four assists against Belmont Abbey to cap his week. He also had four caused turnovers and two ground balls, as the nation's 11th-ranked team improved to 8-0 overall. Thilo leads Mars Hill in points and assists and is second on the team in goals.
Florida Southern College senior attack Mat Thompson has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Florida Southern sophomore defender D.J. Lubs is the Defensive Player of the Week.
Thompson helped lead Florida Southern to a pair of conference wins last week. He scored four goals, including the game-winner, as the Moccasins overcame a four-goal deficit to defeat Wingate 15-11. Thompson followed that up with five goals, including Florida Southern's first three, in a 13-8 win over #10 Catawba. It marks Thompson's first two hat tricks of the season.
Lubs played solid defense and even helped on the offensive end in Florida Southern's 15-11 win over conference foe Wingate. He held David Lee, Wingate's top goal scorer, without a goal, while scoring his first career goal late in the third quarter as part of the Moccasins' rally from four goals down. Against Catawba, Lubs held Braden Artem, the DSC leader in points per game, scoreless. Lubs also caused one turnover and picked up one ground ball, as Florida Southern improved to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the Deep South Conference.
Mars Hill will be in action again on Wednesday, March 14 at St. Leo in St. Leo, Florida. First faceoff will be at 2 p.m.
