Lacrosse Beats Notre Dame de Namur
Tomkinson scores four goals
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team improved to 6-2 on the season with a 13-6 victory over Notre Dame de Namur Sunday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Argonauts fell to 2-3 on the season.
Zach Tomkinson led Mars Hill with four goals followed by Will Scott with two goals and the same number of assists. Kile Garrett scored one goal and had a team high three assists. Jimmy McBride and Dan Applebaum also recorded a pair of goals in the win. Patrick McMahon played all 60 minutes in goal for MHC and made 11 saves.
Jordan Wagner and Dallas Washburn scored two goals apiece to pace the Argonauts. Hunter Adams played the entire contest in goal for NDDU and made 14 saves.
The first quarter was closely played. After the teams were deadlocked at 3-all, Tomkinson scored what would later prove to be the game winner with 50 seconds left in the opening period. The goal was assisted by Anthony Malcolm. The Lions outscored the Argonauts 4-1 in the second quarter to enjoy an 8-4 lead at the intermission.
The Lions edged NDDU, 3-2 in the third quarter to extend their lead by five goals (11-6). Mars Hill's defense held strong in the last quarter not allowing the Argonauts a goal. The Lions posted two goals in the period to make the final tally, 13-6 in favor of the hosts.
MHC outshot the Argonauts, 39-24. The Lions won the ground ball battle, 33-17 and won 16-22 face-offs.
Mars Hill will play at Catawba College on March 23. Game time is set for a 7 p.m. start.
