Lacrosse Wins at Catawba
SALISBURY, N.C. - Mars Hill defeated host Catawba 12-10 in a tightly contested men's lacrosse game on Saturday night at Shuford Stadium. The Lions improve to 7-2, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-6.
The teams battled even through the first two quarters before the
Lions grabbed an 8-6 edge after three quarters. Mars Hill closed
the quarter with the final three goals, two from Kile Garrett, and
added one early in the fourth for a 9-6 lead.
Steven Ridolfo got the Indians within two goals, but Mars Hill
scored twice to lead 11-7 halfway through the final quarter. The
Indians made a late run but scoring three of the last four goals,
but it wasn't enough to overcome the four-goal deficit.
Garrett and Zach Tomkinson each scored three goals to pace Mars
Hill. Tomkinson had back-to-back goals to close the first half to
bring the Lions even at 5-5 at the break. Anthony Malcom had two
goals and four assists, while Patrick McMahon made 11 saves in goal
for Mars Hill.
John Scheich led Catawba with four goals and two assists. Ridolfo
tallied three times and had one helper. Christian Klimczyk and
Pete Wesselman shared a half in goal for the Indians and each made
six saves.
Mars Hill held a 46-36 edge3 in shots and picked up two more ground
balls, 24 to 32, than the Indians. Catawba won 13 of 24
face-offs.
