Lacrosse Wins on Senior Day
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team defeated Queens University of Charlotte, 11-8 on Senior Day in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 9-3 while the Royals fell to 7-6 on the season.
Prior to the contest, MHC recognized their eight senior players. Dan Applebaum, Donte Bradshaw, Kile Garrett, Ryan Herrmann, Jeffrey March, Jesse Mimken, Jamie Raezer and Zach Tomkinson played their final home contest this afternoon for the Lions.
Applebaum scored three goals to lead the Lions' offensively. Jimmy McBride followed with a pair of goals and three assists. Garrett added two goals and the same number of assists. Anthony Malcolm recorded two goals and one assist. Patrick McMahon played all 60 minutes in goal for MHC and made 11 saves.
Evan Karkas led all scorers with four goals to pace the Royals. Garrett added two goals. Eric Dolan also played 60 minutes in the net for Queens and made 13 saves.
Mars Hill outshot Queens, 43-34. The Lions also edged the Royals in ground balls, 38-26. MHC won 12-21 face-offs and was 2-3 in extra-man opportunities.
Applebaum's goal at the 5:15 mark of the first quarter gave the Lions a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Mars Hill led 3-2 after the first quarter and 5-2 after the second frame to take an 8-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was a stand still as each team recoded a pair of goals. Queens won the last quarter 2-1 to make the final tally 11-8 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will play Saint Leo on April 21 in Hilton Head, S.C. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
