Lacrosse Beats Rollins
Scott scores three goals and has two assists
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team defeated Rollins College 10-5 Sunday afternoon in a neutral site contest played at Ardrey Kell High School. Mars Hill ends the 2013 campaign with an 11-3 record. Rollins fell to 3-13 on the season with the loss.
Will Scott and Jimmy McBride led the Lions offensively. Scott scored three goals and provided his teammates with two assists while McBride added a game high four goals in the win. Jamie Raezer recorded a goal and an assist in the contest. Patrick McMahon played all 60 minutes in goal for MHC and made 11 saves.
Mars Hill outshot Rollins 40-22 and won the ground ball battle, 34-23. The Lions won 12-18 face-offs and were 2-4 on extra man opportunities.
Austin Ricci led the Tars with four goals on six shots. Andrew Sheerin played the first 57:47 in goal for Rollins and made 16 saves. Hunt Bartram played the final 2:13 in the net for the Tars and made one save.
Scott scored the Lions' first two goals of the game and MHC never looked back. Mars Hill led 3-1 after the first quarter. The Tars battled back winning the second frame, 3-2 to send the team into the locker rooms at halftime with Mars Hill holding a 5-4 advantage. The third quarter saw only a single goal as McBride found the net at the 9:13 mark. The Lions sealed the win in the last quarter outscoring the Tars 4-1 to make the final tally 10-5 in favor of Mars Hill. McBride recorded two of the Lions' four goals in the final period.
