Lacrosse Falls to Adelphi
The Mars Hill men’s lacrosse team lost 13-6 to No. 3 Adelphi on Thursday afternoon at Meares Stadium and Ammons Family Athletic Center.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team lost 13-6 to No. 3 Adelphi on Thursday afternoon at Meares Stadium and Ammons Family Athletic Center. Adelphi improves to 2-0, while Mars Hill falls to 0-3.
Adelphi was led by three goals each from Nick Watson and Sal Tuttle. Tim Daly scored two goals, with Cory Stavis, Joe Celano, Ike Hopper, Nick Susko and Joseph Sciara scoring a goal each. Jamie McAndrew had three assists for the Panthers. Aiden Bennardo faced 11 shots and made five saves in the win.
Mars Hill received two goals from Jimmy McBride and AJ Seip. Ryan Sage and Frank Riffe also scored for the Lions. Adam Zulak had four assists. Patrick McMahon faced 24 shots and made 11 saves.
Adelphi got on the board 47 seconds in the game as Tuttle scored his first goal of the game for a 1-0 lead. The Panthers had a 3-0 lead just under six minutes into the game before Seip got Mars Hill on the board with 7:58 to go in the opening quarter. Both teams traded a pair of goals, giving Adelphi a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes of play.
With Mars Hill trailing 7-3, McBride scored a pair of goals 1:21 apart to bring the lions to within two goals. Cory Stavis got on the scoresheet with his first goal of the season with 2:43 to play in the half, with Adelphi taking an 8-5 lead into halftime.
Adelphi scored two goals 53 seconds apart in the third quarter to take a five goal lead, 10-5, with 10:02 to play. Sage found the back of the net less than a minute later to bring Mars Hill to within four, but Adelphi kept Mars Hill off the scoreboard for the rest of the game while adding three goals for a 13-6 final result.
Mars Hill hits the road for a pair of contests, traveling to Belmont Abbey on Saturday and Lenoir-Rhyne on March 8 before returning to Meares Stadium on Sunday, March 16 against Catawba.
