Lacrosse Knocks off LMU, 16-7
The Lions defeated Lincoln Memorial, 16-7 in South Atlantic Conference lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions defeated Lincoln Memorial, 16-7 in South Atlantic Conference lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the league with the win. The Railsplitters fell to 2-9 on the season, 0-7 in the SAC.
Jimmy McBride led MHU with five goals and one assist. Saxon Weil followed with four goals and one assist while Anthony Malcom scored once and tallied a game high five assists in the victory. Jack Grinewich played 52:55 in goal for the Lions and made 11 saves. Ryan Kearney played the final 7:05 in the net for MHU and made two saves.
Ryan Young and Billy Kopsky scored two goals apiece to lead LMU. Joe Medal played the initial 51:50 in the net for the Railsplitters making 11 saves while Kyle Deriemacker played the last 8:10 in goal for LMU.
Saxon Weil scored the Lions first goal of the game at the 12:15 mark in the first quarter and Mars Hill would never trail again. Mars Hill outscored LMU 3-1 in both of the first two periods to take a 6-2 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. The Lions won the third frame 4-2 to lead 10-4 going into the last 15 minutes of play. Mars Hill ended the fourth quarter with a 6-3 advantage to make the final tally 16-7 in favor of the Lions.
Mars Hill outshot the Railsplitters, 43-26 in the contest. LMU won the ground ball battle, 38-36 and won 16-26 face-offs. MHU was 0-1 in extra-man opportunities while LMU was 1-5.
Mars Hill will host Lindenwood in a non-conference game on Thursday, April 2. The contest is set to begin at 4 p.m.
