Mars Hill falls to No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne in 2018 home finale
The Mars Hill (1-12, 0-7 SAC) men's lacrosse team dropped their 2018 season home finale to No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne (14-1, 7-0 SAC) at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Saturday afternoon.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill (1-12, 0-7 SAC) men's lacrosse team dropped their 2018 season home finale to No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne (14-1, 7-0 SAC) at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Bears struck early and often, recording five goals in the first 6:07 of the contest. Eric Dickinson scored the natural hat-trick, as he netted the first three goals of the game. Joe Buduo and Evan Torris also scored in that time span. With 7:17 left in the first quarter, Dima Ferreira would put the Lions on the board.
Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne traded goals in the second frame. With 6:53 remaining in the half, Jake Trafton pulled the Lions within three, but shortly after, a goal from Ryan Bell reestablished the four goal advantage. In the final three minutes of the half, goals from Parker Beaudry and Torris kept the Lenoir-Rhyne lead at four goals entering halftime.
Similarly to their opening frame performance, the Bears only allowed one goal in the third quarter. Outscoring Mars Hill 4-1 in the third, the Bears would carry a seven goal lead into the final 15 minutes of play. Myles Moffat, Ben Corrigan, Dickinson and Will Remsen were the goal scorers for the Bears. Trafton potted his second of the game with 6:11 left in the stanza.
The Lions were once again only able to net one goal, a tally from Josh Bryers with 6:29 remaining in the game. Lenoir-Rhyne scored three goals from the sticks of Buduo, Jake Alesia and Kody Kindle.
Trafton (2g, 1a) led the Lions with three points on the afternoon. Ferreira and Lipsky each recorded one goal and one assist. Moffat (1g, 6a) led the Bears' offense with seven points. Dickinson led all players with four goals.
Ryan Crompton stopped nine shots to earn the victory. Ryan Kearney made 13 saves in the losing effort.
Prior to the game, Dima Ferreira, Ryan Kearney, Quinlan Blackmon, Alex Lipsky and Tucker Sharrow were honored for their accomplishments and contributions to the program for Senior Day.
The Lions wrap up the 2018 season with a South Atlantic Conference matchup versus Newberry on the road. The Saturday, April 21 contest is set for a 3 p.m. start.
