Men’s Tennis defeats Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Mars Hill College's Lucas Simm and Enrico Patriarca each won twice as the Lions topped Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action, 5-2, in Jefferson City on Friday afternoon.
With the win, Mars Hill moves to 5-4 in SAC play and 7-8 overall. The Eagles fall to 1-8 in league play and 4-14 overall.
Simm and Patriarca combined to beat C-N's Trent Slagle and Chris Acker at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Simm would follow with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Slagle at No. 1 singles, while Patriarca would slip past the Eales' Dusty Davis, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. C-N picked up an early point at No. 2 doubles as Paul Birdsong and Adriano Kira beat Mars Hill's Guilherme Lima and Stevan Stankovic, 8-3. MHC took a 2-1 lead after doubles play when Brad Bassinger and Carlos Oyaga defeated C-N's Derek Holdway and Dalton Moore, 8-3.
Carson-Newman picked up a point at No. 3 singles when Holdway topped Oyaga, 6-2, 6-1, but Mars Hill would close out the match as Lima beat Acker, 6-2, 6-4 for the fifth and final point.
