All-Region Awards for Indoor Track Announced
NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the first time, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named All-Region honorees for indoor track & field in Division II. Travis Riner and Frankie Waters were selected from Mars Hill.
The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2011 indoor season.
A total of 1,039 athletes receive 1,482 all-region nods in the
inaugural class.
On the men's side, five individuals earned all-region honors in
four events including Jaion Rayford (Alabama-Huntsville), Aaron
Hill (Grand Canyon), Matt Kaino (Western Oregon), Kieren Broussard
(Kentucky State), and Derek Bredy (MSU Moorhead).
Abby Kacsandi (Ashland) and Shannon Gagne (New Haven) captured
all-region honors in six events apiece to lead the women's
list.
In the team count, Southern Connecticut led all men's teams in the
nation with 30 honorees, followed by Western Oregon (27) and
Alabama-Huntsville (26). On the women's side, Grand Valley State
(31) took the cake while Southern Connecticut (26) and Ashland (25)
followed.
In the conference category, the Northeast-10 racked up 90 men's
all-region nods to best the rest while the GNAC (80) and MIAA (79)
fell next in the order. On the women's side, again the NE-10 scored
big with 87 honors followed by the MIAA (84) and GLIAC (75).
