Track & Field Results at Mountaineer Meet
Riner breaks record
BOONE, N.C. - Mars Hill's track and field teams competed in the Mountaineer Split Indoor Meet hosted by Appalachian State University in the Holmes Convocation Center. Complete results can be found by clicking here.
On the women's side, Ginny Smith ran a 9.61 in the 55 Hurdles
finishing sixth overall. On the men's side, Travis Riner broke the
Mars Hill school record for the weight throw which is a 36-pound
"mini-hammer". His throw was 46' 8.25" placing him fifth overall.
His shot 45' 5.75 placed him third overall and missed the MHC
record by a mere six inches. Deandre Vines won the men's 200 meters
with a time of 22.74 just missing the MHC school record. This was
a huge win by Vines as Western Carolina University's sprint team is
very strong.
Justin Gragg finished fourth overall in the 3000 meters with a time
of 9:00.78. That is a very fast time for his Gragg's meet of the
season.
The Lions' next meet will be on January 25 at the USC Indoor meet in Columbia, S.C. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
