WSSU Invitational Results
MARS HILL, N.C.-- Two new school records and numerous personal bests were set by Mars Hill men's track and field members at the Winston-Salem State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The 4x100M Relay team and Kendall Pickett each set new school records. The 4x100 Relay team, consisting of Kenneth Brown-Wilson, Jamerson Turner, Deandre Vines and Cameron Shaw turned in a time of 41.96, breaking the old school record by one second. Pickett set a new school record in the 400M Dash with a time of 49.33, good enough for eighth overall.
Numerous other Lions set personal bests on the day.
Jaymz Fagaragan set four new personal records on his way to a second place finish in the Decathlon. Fagaragan set personal records in the Long Jump (19 feet, eight inches), Shot Put (39 feet), Discus (92 feet, six inches) and 110 Meter Hurdles (16.13 seconds).
Turner, Shaw, and Kedar Peeples also all set personal bests in the 100M Dash. Shaw's 10.95 performance placed him fourth overall, while Turner was sixth with an 11.06 time. Peeples personal-best time came in at 11.16.
Shaw and Peeples each placed in the 200 Meter Dash. Shaw finished fourth with a time of 22.49. Peeples finished tenth with a personal-best time of 22.82.
Mars Hill enjoyed their run of success in distance events, as Kiel Bollero and Carter Benge finished third and fourth respectively in the 5000 Meters.
Eric Blackburn had a very successful day in his events for the Lions. Blackburn won the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:08.96 and set a personal season-best time in the 800 Meters.
In field events, Tyjuan Hill led the way for the Lions with a third place finish in the Long Jump. Travis Riner set a season-best in the Discus event, with a throw of 139 feet, six inches.
Derek Gibson placed second in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:09.83.
Mars Hill's next meet will come on April 7 at the Terrier Relays in Greenville, S.C.
