Terrier Relays Results
GREENVILLE, S.C.-- The Mars Hill men's track and field team set four new school records and posted a number of personal bests at the Terrier Relays Saturday.
Mars Hill team members set new records in the Distance Medley Relay, 4x200M Relay, Hammer Throw, and Discus. The Distance Medley Relay team, made up of Justin Gragg, Kendall Pickett, Derek Gibson and Eric Blackburn turned in a time of 10:34.57, shattering the old school record by 25 seconds and placing first in the meet. Kedar Peeples, Jamerson Turner, Deandre Vines and Cameron Shaw accounted for the new school record in the 4x200M Relay. The quartet turned in a time of 1:28.15 to break an eight-year old record by three seconds and take first overall in the meet.
Travis Riner accounted for the final two school records broken on the day. Riner broke an eight-year old school record in the Hammer Throw by 22 feet, with a throw of 122 feet, five inches. Riner also broke his old school record in the Discus by five feet, with a throw of 145 feet, nine inches. Riner additionally placed second in the Shot Put with a throw of 46 feet.
Several other Lions set personal bests at the event. Bradley Burton turned in his top career performance in the Shot Put and Discus. Kelvin Brewington set personal bests in the 100M with a time of 11.48 and the 200M, with a time of 23.52. Carter Benge also topped his previous best in the 5000M by ten seconds with a time of 16:21.
Mars Hill will be in action again on Friday, Apr. 13 at the Appalachian State Open Meet in Boone, N.C.
