Lions Set Two School-Records at JDL Fast Track
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The Mars Hill men's track and field team set two new school records at the JDL Fast Track, held Saturday.
Sophomore Deandre Vines ran a time of 36.40 in the 300 M Dash, which broke a 13-year old school record by a full second. Vines finished 13th overall and was the top Division II performer in the event. Junior Travis Riner broke his own Shot Put record by two feet, eight inches with a throw of 50 feet, six inches. That throw placed him second overall in the meet, first among Division II athletes and left him nine inches from qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Meet. His throw currently ranks fifth in the nation.
Three Lion runners were the top Division II performer in their respective events. Freshman Erin Parker turned in the top time by a Division II runner in the 60 M Dash with a time of 7.12 seconds. Freshman Cesar Reyes turned in a strong performance in the 3000 M with a time of 9:23. Sophomore Jaymz Fagaragan placed 11th overall in the 60 M Hurdles with a time of 9:18.
Sophomore Tyrese Lee turned in a personal-best jump of 21 feet, seven inches in the Long Jump. Lee's jump was the best among Division II performers and was good enough for ninth overall. Fellow sophomore Issac Phyall finished fifth overall and best among Division II peformers in the Triple Jump with a jump of 43 feet, eight inches.
The JDL Fast Track was one of the most competitive meets in which the Lions will participate this season. The event featured professional athletes and Olympians, as well as Division I performers representing the Atlantic Coast Conference
Mars Hill will compete in the Appalachian State Meet, which begins Jan. 18 in Boone, N.C.
