Lions Conclude Competition at Hilton Garden Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-The Mars Hill men's track and field team concluded competition at the Hilton Garden Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
Travis Riner turned in the Lions' top performance of the day. Riner turned in the best Shot Put throw among Division II performers with a throw of 46'-0.75". That throw was good enough for 16th overall and was better than several competitors from Division I schools.

The Distance Medley Relay Team also turned in a strong performance, placing sixth with a time of 10:49.10. The team consisted of Cesar Reyes, Ryan White, Eric Blackburn and Alex Griggs.
Continuing the strong Lion performances in distance events was Derek Gibson, who placed sixth in Section 4 of the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 9:05.46. Kiel Bollero placed eighth in the same heat with a time of 9:17.33. Bollero also turned in the top time in the Mile Run by a Mars Hill runner, with a time of 4:43.76.
Isaac Phyall placed third among Division II runners in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.68. That time was good enough for 20th overall.
Jaymz Fagaragan was the best Division II performer in the Heptathlon, setting a new school-record with 3,741 points to finish seventh. Chase Shermer added a seventh-place finish in the Section 5 heat of the 800 Meter run with a time of 2:05.99.
The Hilton Garden Invitational included performers from NCAA Division I and II, as well as NAIA competitors. Performers included representatives from schools in the ACC, Atlantic Sun and Sothern Conference.
Mars Hill will compete in the USC Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Columbia, S.C.
