Four Lions Named All-Region
NEW ORLEANS, LA.-Four members of the Mars Hill men's track and field team have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Team.
NEW ORLEANS, LA.-Four members of the Mars Hill men's track and field team have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Team.
Jaymz Fagaragan, Derek Gibson, Travis Riner and Cameron Shaw each earned All-Region honors for the Lions. Riner earned All-Region recognition in two events. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three earned All-Region distinction. A total of 1,283 student-athletes nationwide earned All-Region distinction in NCAA Division II. On the men's side, 670 student-athletes were named All-Region.
Riner was recognized as an All-Region performer in both the Shot Put and Discus. Riner won both the Discus and Shot Put events at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship. His winning Discus throw was 137'-4.00", while his Shot Put throw of 49'-2.25" was also good enough for first.
Fagaragan earned recognition for his performance in the Pole Vault. He placed second with a vault of 11'-9.75".
Gibson's victory in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase was good enough to earn the sophomore All-Region recognition. Gibson's time in the event was 9:47.43.
Shaw set a new school-record on his way to earning All-Region honors in the 200 Meter Dash. Shaw ran a time of 21.78 seconds at the Southeast Regional Championship. It was the second time Shaw had set a new school-record in the event this spring.
Mars Hill concluded its season by capturing its second-consecutive Southeast Regional Championship.
