Several Lions Have Strong Day at Shorter Invitational
The Mars Hill men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Shorter University Invitational on Saturday with several strong performances despite rainy and windy conditions.
ROME, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Shorter University Invitational on Saturday with several strong performances despite rainy and windy conditions.
Cesar Reyes won the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:12.33. Reyes also competed in the 800 Meter Run, finishing in 14th. Dwayne Boone won the High Jump, clearing 1.88 meters (6.2 feet).Travis Riner won the Shot Put and qualified for the NCAA national meet with a throw of 16.01 meters and finished in third place in the Discus. Tre'von Gee was the runner-up in the 110 Meter Hurdles, with Marvin Fulwood claiming a sixth place finish. Jeremy Crawford finished in fifth place in the 100 Meter Dash. Isaac Phyall finished in third place in the triple jump.
Jessica Viscusi won her second consecutive 3000 Meter Steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 11:22.14. Viscusi is now the school record-holder in the event and is seven seconds shy of the national qualifying mark. Megan Smith gave Mars Hill two of the top three finishers in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, coming home in third place in a personal-best 12:43.94. Viscusi finished in seventh place in the 800 Meter Run with Dawn Radford taking home a 15th place finish. Alexis Montgomery finished in fifth in the 100 Meter Dash and seventh in the 200 Meter Dash. Savannah Hulbert came home in eighth place in the 100 Meter Hurdles in a personal-best 16.12. In the 5K, Anje Kidd ran a personal-best 20:43.67. Taylor Jordan threw a personal-best 90 feet in the discus.
Mars Hill is back in action Saturday at the Terrier Relays.
