Men's Track in Fourth Place at SAC Championships

HICKORY, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's track team posted a pair of 1-2 finishes on the opening day of the South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Lions completed the first day in fourth place with a total of 37 points, just 10 points behind second place.
Competing in the event for just the second time, the freshman duo of Garrett Farrimond and Gil Gilreath claimed the top two spots in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with Farrimond claiming the victory in 10:00.18 and Gilreath crossing the finish line in 10:05.49. Daniel Lerner scored an eighth place finish in the event, finishing in 18:28.95.
In the 10,000 meter run, Alex Griggs defended his title with a winning time of 31:49.49 followed by Nathan Jones in second place (32:04.72).
Chase Shermer qualified for the finals on Saturday in the 1500 meter run. Also advancing through preliminary heats were Jay Myers in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash, Marcus Foster in the 110 and 400 meter hurdles and Trevon Gee in the 110 meter hurdles.
The meet continues tomorrow at Lenoir-Rhyne.
