Men's Track Finishes in Third at SAC Championship
Marcus Foster won the 400 meter hurdles and was part of the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team
HICKORY, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's track team had two victories on the second day of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Lenoir-Rhyne. As a team, Mars Hill finished in third place behind Queens and Wingate.
Marcus Foster won the 400 meter hurdles in 53.09 while achieving an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and is now 14th among Division II runners in the event and the top-ranked freshman. Foster also finished in fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles (15.34). Foster, Jay Myers, Isaac Phyall and Malik Anderson won the 4 x 100 meter relay in 41.17 seconds. Myers finished in third place in the 100 meter dash (10.68) as well as in the 200 meter dash (21.85). Marlon Allen finished the 200 meter dash in eighth place (22.78). The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Malachi Young, Foster, Dontonio Garrison and Allen lowered their school record with a new time of 3:20.26.
Alex Griggs finished in third place in the 5000 meter run (15:15.25) while Chase Shermer scored an eighth place finish in the 1500 meter run (4:10.53).
Phyall finished in fourth place in the pole vault (3.35 meters) and seventh place in the triple jump (12.83 meters). Chris Bumgarner finished in eighth place in the discus (38.19 meters).
The Lions return to action next Friday at the Appalachian State Invitational.
