Distance Runners Dominate Opening Night At ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The Mars Hill men's track team made the short trip to Johnson City and East Tennessee State University for the Niswonger Invitational on Friday night.
The night belonged to the distance runners as the Lions dominated in the 5000 meter race, placing three runners in the top-seven and five overall in the top 25.
Junior Cameron Lackey led the way for MHU as he was able to best the entire field with a solid 15:03.57. Alex Griggs finished just behind Lackey in third place with a stellar time of 15:15.41. James Gilreath brought home seventh place, crossing the finish line at 15:31.28, 11 seconds better than his seed time.
Rounding out the top performers on the night were Cesar Reyes (16:30.57) and Nick Resor (16:45.75) who picked up 22nd and 25th places, respectively. Reyes also tallied 24th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:08.58.
Freshman Jeremy Hughes also had a great showing for the Lions as he calmly collected a 24th place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.10.
The meet will conclude tomorrow.
