Men's Track Shines At Mountaineer Open
BOONE, N.C. – The Mars Hill men’s track team competed in the Mountaineer Open Indoor Track Meet on Saturday, January 30 in the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State.
BOONE, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's track team competed in the Mountaineer Open Indoor Track Meet on Saturday, January 30 in the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State. The men finished second out of eight total teams.
The sprinters for the Lions had another stellar performance as Deonte Wright outran the field in the 400 meter race, crossing the line in 52.68 to gain the six points. Marlon Allen finished in second place, .04 seconds off of Wright (52.72). Wright was also able to win the 200 sprint with a time of 23.35.
Brandon Beard stepped up his game in the 800 meter run as he was able to beat out DI competition on his way to first place with a time of 1:58.85. This time was also good enough to break a 10-year old MHU record. Cameron Lackey and Cesar Reyes also had impressive performances, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Lackey set a personal-best with a time of 2:20.33.
Noah Allison had a solid showing in the one-mile run as he was able to finish in sixth position with a time of 4:47.28. Teammate Daniel Lerner finished just a mere second behind Allison in ninth place with a time of 4:49.97.
The Lions will return to action when they travel to compete in the Buccaneer Invitational on February 6-7.
