HILLSDALE. MICH. – Justin Gragg and Alex Griggs put a close to their Mars Hill University Track careers in championship fashion on Friday, April 29. Both runners competed in the 10k championship race at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays.
The Hillsdale "Gina" Relays is one of the top distance events meets in the nation and brings in some of the top distance runners at every NCAA level. Both Gragg and Griggs ran a National Championship qualifying time and both beat the previous Mars Hill record. Going into the season former region champion and Mars Hill Assistant Coach Jon Stoehr held the record for 10 years at 30:51. Earlier this year Alex broke record at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 30:30. Justin's time tonight of 30:00 places him 20th in the Nation and Alex's time of 30:03 places him 24th.
"There are no words that can capture their contributions to Mars Hill and their running is just part of it", said Coach Mike Owens. "Both helped establish a culture of hard work and dedication to their team and teammates. Nobody worked harder or came further than Justin and Alex."
Gragg and Griggs have been formidable runners for the Lions since they stepped on campus, anchoring the Blue and Gold and setting a new standard for running at Mars Hill University. Through dedication and perseverance these two runners raise the bar for MHU Track and Field and prove that anything is possible with hard work.
