Lions Track Teams Collect Fifth Place Finishes at Mountaineer Indoor Track Meet
BOONE, N.C. – The Mars Hill men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the Mountaineer Indoor Track Meet on Saturday, January 21, hosted by Appalachian State University.
BOONE, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's and women's track and field teams completed the Mountaineer Indoor Track Meet on Saturday, January 21, hosted by Appalachian State University. The women finished fifth out of 11 teams, while the men also claimed fifth out of the 10-team field.
On the men's side two runners stood out for the Blue and Gold. Marlon Allen captured a first place finish in the 400 meter race with an outstanding time of 51.97 seconds, while Noah Allison was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 3000 meter event, capturing a new personal-best with a time of 9:05.20. The pole vault event was held in Winston Salem, N.C. and Spencer Shade tallied a new career-best, clearing a mark of 13'6", placing fourth overall in an event that contained several Division I schools.
As for the women, Shahnika Williams competed in the long jump where she boasted a solid jump of 17' 8 ¼", just six inches off of a national qualifying mark and the second longest jump in Mars Hill University history. Rachel Strickland continued to improve in the 3000 meter race, collecting her third straight personal-best with a time of 11:33.43.
The teams will return to action on February 3-4, heading to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the ETSU Indoor Track Meet.
