MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's and women's track teams have placed three individuals on the 2017 NCAA Division II Track and Field All-Region List. For the women Jordan Bair made her second appearance on the list for pole vaulting, while Shahnika Williams earns her first All-Region accolade in the long jump event. Spencer Shade represented the men's team as an All-Region honoree in the pole vault.
Williams now owns the Mars Hill school record in the long jump, clearing a distance of 18' 4" during a meet earlier in the season, while Shade set a new personal record of 13' 7".
Coach Bradley Nagel stated, "These All-Region performances were due to a lot of hard work on the part of the student-athletes. They always go above a beyond during training sessions and have a "No Quit" attitude. They are very coachable, hard-working student-athletes.
Another key part of the success of the honorees has been the addition of a new indoor pole vault facility that includes a raised runway to improve speed. "Both Vaulters have taken advantage of this new facility as seen in their performances. We are also able to use the runway and pit for our Long Jumpers which helps us to continue practicing when the weather is bad outside. I am very proud of the work and dedication of these student-athletes and expect to see many more great jumps as we progress into our outdoor season", said Nagel.
