Lions Track and Field Concludes 2017 SAC Championships
HICKORY, N.C. – The Mars Hill track teams concluded the 2017 South Atlantic Conference championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.
HICKORY, N.C. – The Mars Hill track teams concluded the 2017 South Atlantic Conference championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University. Several new records were set during the two-day event.
On the men's side Brandon Beard broke the old school record in the 800 meter race by more than three seconds (1:53.8) as he captured a third place finish, while teammate Nathan Jones finished third in the 10,000 meter event. Gil Gilreath and Garrett Farrimond collected second and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the 3k steeple. Noah Allison crossed the line in fifth during the 1500 and Cameron France tallied a sixth place finish in the 200 and eighth in the 100. Nick Resor absolutely obliterated his old personal best in the 10,000 meters, shaving 80 seconds off his time.
As for the women, Jordan Bair once again broke the school record in the pole vault with a jump of 11'4", good enough for a third place finish. Shahnika Williams established new personal bests in the 100 (12.68) and 200 (26.42), while Christine Foresha had a season best in the 100 meter race at 12.78 and 200 meters at 26.20. The 4X100 relay team, consisting of Williams, Foresha, Bair, and Sydney Britt finished sixth with a new season best of 51 seconds.
The teams will return to the track on Saturday, April 22 as they travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the University of South Carolina.
