Lions Win Bulldog Stampede
WINGATE, N.C.-- Five Mars Hill men's cross country runners placed in the top 10 to help the Lions place first overall at the Bulldog Stampede Saturday morning.
Freshman Alex Griggs, Cesar Reyes and Daniel Jezioranski, sophomore Derek Gibson and senior Eric Blackburn all placed in the top ten for Mars Hill on the 8K course. Griggs finished second overall with a time of 26:34, seven seconds behind champion Steve Hammond of Wingate. Reyes finished just behind, with a time of 26:57 which was good enough for third place overall. No other school had more than two runners place in the top 10 at the event.
Blackburn turned in the third best time for MHC, with a 27:18 to finish in sixth. Gibson and Jezioranski finished ninth and tenth with times of 27:40 and 27:41 respectively.
Carter Benge and Brady Adcock also turned in strong performances for the Lions. Benge ran a time of 27:59 to finish in 13th, while Adcock finished in 16th with a time of 28:12.
Mars Hill will compete in the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. on Sept. 29 at 9 a.m.
