ROCK HILL, S.C. - Mars Hill junior Alex Griggs has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, conference officials announced Wednesday afternoon. It is the sixth time in Griggs' career that he's earned Runner of the Week honors.
Griggs took home a fourth place finish in the non-Division I portion of the Furman Invitational last weekend, finishing the 8-kilometer course in 25:24.40. Griggs was the top finishing SAC runner as well as the fourth-highest Southeast Region runner. Griggs finished in third place at the season-opening Catawba Invitational on September 5. He is the second straight Lion to win AstroTurf Runner of the Week honors as senior Derek Gibson claimed the season's first award last week.
Griggs and his teammates will enjoy a weekend away from competition before returning to action next Friday at the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
