Griggs Finishes With Personal Best Time at Royals XC Challenge
Junior Alex Griggs finished with a new personal best in the 8-kilometer run as the Mars Hill men’s cross country team finished in third place at the Royals XC Challenge.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Junior Alex Griggs finished with a new personal best in the 8-kilometer run as the Mars Hill men's cross country team finished in third place at the Royals XC Challenge.
Griggs crossed the line in 24:55 and was the third-highest non NCAA-Division I runner and leading South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Regional finisher in fifth place. Cesar Reyes came home in 17th with a season best 26:06 and was 15 seconds shy of a new personal best. Freshman Gil Gilreath finished with a new personal best 26:29 in 22nd and was the top finishing SAC newcomer.
Nathan Jones earned a 26th place finish with his 26:40 effort. Brandon Beard earned a 42nd place finish with his finishing time of 27:36, followed closely by Garrett Farrimond in 43rd with a time of 27:38. Chase Shermer was the final Lion to score, finishing in 66th place with a time of 28:15. Other Mars Hill finishers were Lee Johnson (28:41), Daniel Lerner (28:48) and Hunter Townsend (30:46).
Shorter's Silos Too was the individual winner in 24:08. Tennessee Wesleyan was the team winner with 39 points, followed by UNC Pembroke with 97. The Lions finished in third with 112 points.
Mars Hill will preview the course that hosts this year's Southeast Region championship next Saturday as they travel to Montevallo, Ala. for the Falcon Classic at the University of Montevallo. Montevallo hosts the Southeast Region meet on November 22nd.
