Griggs Sets New School Record at Royals XC Challenge
Alex Griggs set a new 8k record on Friday
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Senior Alex Griggs set a new school record in the 8k on Friday afternoon at the Royals XC Challenge. The Lions finished in eighth place overall and fifth among NCAA Division II schools.
Griggs broke the previous school record held by Craig Eckstein of 24:41 with a new time of 24:23.10. Griggs finished the race in third place and was the top finishing Division II runner.
Nathan Jones finished in 23rd place with a time of 25:25.50. Cesar Reyes scored a 51st place finish as he crossed the finish line in 26:08.20. Nick Resor finished with a new personal best time of 26:29.10 in 72nd place. Gil Gilreath finished in 89th with a time of 26:43.80. Noah Allison also finished with a new personal best, crossing the finish line in 27:03.60 for a 107th place finish. Brandon Beard was the final Lion to finish in a scoring position as he finished in 114th with a time of 27:16.50.
Justin Sestan finished with a new personal best time of 27:35.40. Chase Shermer finished with a time of 28:17.40. Daniel Lerner finished in a personal best 28:29.30. Other Mars Hill finishers were Nathan Wheeler (29:33.20), Jonathan Spence (29:33.30) and Trey Heavener (30:17.40).
Campbell won the event with a team score of 59.
