Scott Long named assistant coach
Scott Long has been named Assistant Coach to the Mars Hill University softball program.
MARS HILL, N.C. – Scott Long has been named Assistant Coach to the Mars Hill University softball program, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
"I want to thank Coach Roser for allowing me to be a part of a new chapter in Mars Hill softball," Long said. "I am excited to get to work with not only coach Roser but the ladies on the team that have worked so hard to represent the great institution of Mars Hill University."
Long joins the Lions after spending one season as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University. While at Gardner-Webb, Long helped the team finish in the top two in several statistical categories in the Big South Conference including, but not limited to, batting average, doubles, triples, and runs scored.
Responsible for pitching and hitting development, Long coached the new single-season strikeout record holder as well as the Big South Conference's Freshman of the Year.
Previous to joining Gardner-Webb, Long served as head coach at Salem College from 2010-2018, amassing a 141-127-2 record. The team won the Great South Atlantic Tournament back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016 and also won the USA South West Division Regular Season Championship in 2017 and 2018. Long was named Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018. Also in 2016, Long coached the Player, Pitcher and Freshman of the Year.
Long began his coaching career in 1999 and brings over 20 years of experience to Mars Hill.
"Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Mars Hill," stated head softball coach Christine Roser. "He has boundless energy and enthusiasm for the sport, as well as endless love and support for the student-athletes. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to add Scott to our coaching staff at Mars Hill."
