Women’s Basketball cruises past Pfeiffer
HICKORY, N.C. - Mars Hill used a game-high 16 points, including four made three-pointers, from Kristen Metcalf to defeat Pfeiffer, 85-53, on the second day of the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. The Lions improve to 1-1 this season.
Trailing by one point three minutes into the game, Mars Hill went on a 21-7 spurt over the next nine minutes to seize control of the game. A trey from Metcalf and layup by Armeka Booker made the score 25-12 in favor of the Lions at the 8:34 mark. Mars Hill's Ansley Ricker drilled a three-pointer at the 2:12 mark in the first half to make the difference 15 points (32-17), and the Lions led at halftime 36-20.
Mars Hill opened the second half on a 9-2 spurt. A layup from Ricker made the score 45-22 with 17:39 left in the game. The Lions led by no less than 30 points during the final nine minutes of the game and led by as much as 37 (85-48) with 2:25 left in the game.
Ricker and Booker finished with 14 points apiece. Danielle Tucker added 10 points and nine rebounds. Jackie Simon had nine points.
Pfeiffer's Shelley Reese and Vontreece Hayes scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Mars Hill shot a blistering 60% (36-60) from the floor in the game, including 74.1% (20-27) in the second half. Pfeiffer hit only 29% (20-69) of its shots from the field in the contest.
The Lions will host Lindsey Wilson on Friday, Nov. 18, in the 2011 home opener. Tipoff for the first game for Mars Hill in the 2011 Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic is set for 6 p.m.
