Women’s Basketball defeats King, 68-50
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Ansley Ricker and Armeka Booker combined for 27 points to lead Mars Hill over King, 68-50, on Tuesday night.
The Lions (4-4) shot 45.9% (28-of-61) from the field and hit eight three-pointers in the contest. The Lady Tornado (0-7) hit only 32.8% (19-of-58) in the contest.
Mars Hill jumped out to a 23-17 lead in the first half off a made jumper by Danielle Tucker. King's Brittany Kinser drained a trey to cut the deficit to 25-23, but the Lions closed the first period on a 14-2 run to take a 39-25 advantage into intermission. Ricker scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the first half.
Two made free throws by Tucker seven minutes into the second period gave Mars Hill its first 20-point lead of the game. King cut the deficit under 20 points only once for the rest of the game, as the Lions led by as many as 24 points, 63-39, in the second period after a bucket by Katie Buckner.
Mars Hill's Taylor Deal and Tyler Carlson tallied eight points apiece. Tucker and Kristen Metcalf recorded six points apiece.
Tia Keitt led King with 13 points. Allison Boose had 10. Brooke Johnson came up with five rebounds.
Mars Hill will host North Greenville on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
