Lions fall to Appalachian State in Exhibition
BOONE, N.C.-- The Mars Hill women's basketball team was defeated 77-43 by Appalachian State in an exhibition contest at the Holmes Center Saturday afternoon.
A quick start paced the Mountaineers to a 49-15 halftime advantge. Appalachian State was paced by Anna Freeman with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Maryah Sydnor added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Mountaineers. Mars Hill was paced by Armeka Booker and Kristen Metcalf with 11 points apiece.
The Mountaineers outscored the Lions 50-16 in the paint and 42-19 in points off turnovers. Appalachian State shot 35-of-72 from the field (48.6 percent) while holding Mars Hill to a 30.4 percent clip (14-of-46).
Appalachian State started the game on a 25-5 run in the game's opening ten minutes. The Mountaineers shot 55 percent in the first half and scored 32 points in the paint.
Mars Hill will open their regular season in Gaffney, S.C. against Limestone on Nov. 9 at 6:00 p.m.
