ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team lost to Anderson 97-58 on Monday night in South Atlantic Conference basketball action in Abney Athletic Center. Mars Hill falls to 6-16 overall and 5-13 in league play, while Anderson improves to 13-11 on the season and an even 9-9 in the conference.
Ansley Ricker scored 13 points to lead Mars Hill. Autumn Ward pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
Emily Wiloughby led Anderson with 15 points. Madison Floyd scored 14 points, with Jaclyn Moore adding 13.
Anderson scored the first seven points of the game before Mars Hill got on the board thanks to a Ricker jumper with just over 16 minutes to go. The Trojans went on a furious 40-10 run, leading the Lions 22-5 at the midpoint of the half and by a 47-12 score, with 3:03 to play. The Lions went on an 11-4 run to close the half, heading to the locker room trailing Anderson by a 51-23 margin.
Consecutive 3-pointers from Ricker and Ward brought the Lions to within 26, 55-29, with 18:13 remaining. Anderson answered with a bucket from Wiloughby before Ricker cut the Trojan lead to 57-31 with 17:48 to play. The Trojans led by as many as 43 points and trailed by no fewer than 29 the rest of the game.
Mars Hill has a quick turnaround, traveling to Tusculum for a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday.
