MARS HILL, N.C. – After final tabulations, Mars Hill has raised over $1,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund (KYCF) following their Play 4Kay game against Queens on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The Lions raised $1,017 in their fundraising efforts, which included a silent auction, raffle tickets for gift cards and prizes, a half-court shot opportunity, pink t-shirt sales and online donations.
"Thank you to everyone who donated to help support this initiative," said Mars Hill head women's basketball coach Sarah Jansen. "I'd also like to thank the sisters of Sigma Alpha Chi and the 'Hill Raisers' for their assistance with the event and their continued support of Mars Hill athletics."
The Play 4Kay initiative allows coaches and student-athletes to come together with their local community to raise awareness for breast cancer research on the court and in their communities. Play 4Kay is named after legendary women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after a 22-year battle with breast cancer.
Proceeds directly support women's breast cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund (KYCF). Since its inception, the Play 4Kay program has raised over $2.6 million to support women's cancer research.
