MARS HILL, N.C.- The Mars Hill women's basketball team will take part in the Play4Kay initiative on Saturday, February 11 against Queens.
The 2016 Play4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for women's cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has helped the Kay Yow Cancer Fund support $5.18 million in women's cancer research and related projects.
Mars Hill students, community members and supporters have several opportunities to participate in and donate to the Play4Kay initiative. Donations can also be made directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund online by clicking here.
Over the past three years the Lions have raised over $2,000 and the goal is to add more to that this season. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show support for the initiative. The contest against the Royals is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
In addition the women's basketball team with auction off a Mars Hill fan bag with over $250 worth of gear as well as an autographed mini basketball from former UNC basketball star and current Charlotte Hornets player Marvin Williams. The silent auction will end with four minutes left of the first half of the men's game and winner will be announced at halftime.
The team will also be selling raffle tickets for a chance to shoot a 3-pointer at halftime of both games. If the shot is made then the winner can pick from a selection of gift cards from BoJangles, Subway, Vintage Fab, Zaxbys, and Main street Burrito.
