Mars Hill concludes regular season versus Queens on road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-24, 0-20 SAC) fell by a score of 80-61 versus Queens (10-16, 5-15 SAC) Saturday afternoon on the road.
Entering the second half tied at 36, Queens' 27-point third quarter was the turning point for their 10th win of the season. An early 8-2 over the first 1:39 of the frame put the Royals up by six before a Lions' 5-0 run pulled Mars Hill within one. The Lions tied the game at 46 with 6:17 left in the stanza off of a Mariah Johnson three-pointer. With just over five minutes left in the third, Queens' offense took over, going on a 17-1 run to close out the frame. Lade Adepoju scored eight while Jaymi Golden added six in the run.
The momentum carried over as Queens opened the fourth on a 7-0 run to go up 71-47 with under eight minutes to play. Mars Hill closed out the contest on a 14-9 run to end their 2018-19 season. Alexis Pardue, Tatum Boggs and Mariah Johnson each had six points in the half to lead Mars Hill.
Mars Hill began the contest down 10-0 in the opening 2:46, but responded to score nine of the next 11 points to trail by three with just over four minutes left in the first stanza. Queens, with the three-point lead, ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to enter the second up 24-11.
In a reversal of the first frame, Mars Hill roared out of the gates with a 12-0 run to cut the Queens lead to one with 7:47 left in the first half. Queens pushed back to rebuild their lead to five, but Mars Hill's persistence allowed the Lions to end the half on a 9-4 run to tie the game at 36 after 20 minutes of play.
Johnson scored a team-high 10 in the half for Mars Hill while Shayla Smith added eight. Adepoju led Queens with 10 points in the first.
Adepoju led all players with 22 points and collected eight rebounds. Kristian Eanes added 15 on the day. Johnson led the Lions with 16 in the contest while Pardue added 12. Both Boggs and Smith had 11 points while Smith led all players with a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Lions conclude the 2018-19 season with a record of 1-24, 0-20 in the SAC.
