JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-9, 0-5 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (7-4, 3-2 SAC) by a score of 106-44 in their final game of 2019.
The Eagles dropped 30 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 60-24 lead into the half. In the first quarter, both Braelyn Wykle and Tori Griffin hit two three-pointers apiece while Abby Wilson and Madison Bunch added one apiece as the Eagles hit six three-pointers in the first 10 minutes.
Carson-Newman added another six three-pointers in the second quarter, led by Qua Hines' three. Of the 11 Lions' points scored in the second stanza, Hannah Chandler led the team with four.
Turnovers plagued the Lions in the third quarter as the Eagles outscored Mars Hill 23-4 and outrebounded Mars Hill 14-8. Kayla Marosites led Carson-Newman with six points followed by Addison Byrd's five.
The fourth quarter saw Mars Hill score 16 points, their most in the contest. Both Chandler and Tatum Boggs recorded four points while De'Ja Marshall, Drew McMillan, Lahaina Bell, and Trinity Barkley each added two apiece.
The Eagles hit 15-of-34 three-pointers and shot over 50 percent from the floor, never trailing in the contest.
Boggs led the Lions with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists followed by Chandler's eight points. Barkley added six points of the bench.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, January 4 when they take on Wingate on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
