Mars Hill falls to Catawba on road

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-20, 0-16 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (18-3, 13-3 SAC) by a score of 85-49 Saturday afternoon.
Catawba opened the game dominantly, outscoring the Lions 26-5 in the first quarter. The Indians' first four field goals were three-pointers with two made from Madison Hallman, capping off a 12-0 run.
The second quarter saw a closer frame for the Lions, netting 11 points to Catawba's 17 before halftime. Catawba ended the half on a 7-2 run to lead 43-16 after 20 minutes of play.
Balanced Indians' scoring in the third quarter saw Emily Phillips and Sara McIntosh both score six points apiece from the Catawba bench. De'Ja Marshall led the Lions with six points in the quarter while Hannah Chandler added three off the bench.
Tatum Boggs led all players in the final stanza, recording 11 of her game-high 14 points in the final 10 minutes of play. Boggs was 3-for-3 from the floor, including one three-pointer. The fourth saw the Lions shoot 60 percent from the floor, their best effort on the afternoon.
Lyrik Thorne led the Indians with 14 points on the afternoon, while both Hallman and Taisha DeShazo each hit three three-pointers apiece, ending the contest with eight and 10 points, respectively.
Marshall ended the contest with 11 points and five rebounds. Pardue added six points on the day.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, February 12 when they face the Pioneers of Tusculum on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
