Women’s Golf Signs Signs Two
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill golf coach Ed Hoffmeyer announced that two women golfers have signed National Letters of Intents with the Lions during the early signing period.
Victoria Barrett from Cocke County High School in Newport, Tenn., and Sarah Johnson from East Surry High School in Pilot Mountain N.C., will join the program for the 2012-13 academic year.
Barrett helped lead her team to their first District 2 AAA Championship in school history this year as well as a solid third place finish in the Region 1 AAA tournament, while earning all-conference and all-district honors for the second year in a row individually. Hoffmeyer stated, "Victoria is a solid player who hits the ball a long way. Her success on the high school level should serve her well as she moves forward. I look for her to make an immediate impact on our program. Her preparation in the classroom will help her become a leader on and off the course."
Johnson, the 2010 Player of the Year in her conference helped lead her team to their second straight Conference Championship and a third place finish in the N.C. State Championship this fall. Coach Hoffmeyer commented, "Sarah will make an immediate impact on our program. She loves the game as demonstrated by her tireless work to make herself better. While her game is solid in all areas, there is no question that her best golf is in her future. She is a dedicated team player who I am confident will assume a leadership role in our program."
Both players are the first early signees in Hoffmeyer's return to coaching.
