Lions Place Fourth at Converse Invite
SPARTANBURG, S.C.-- The Mars Hill women's golf team placed fourth in their opening tournament of the season at the Converse Invite by Founders FCU, held at the Carolina Country Club.
The Lions shot 104-over for a total score of 392. Individually, Mars Hill was paced by Victoria Barrett, who placed 13th with a 20-over 92. Elizabeth Hall of Converse was the individual champ with a five-over 77. Converse won the seven-team tournament, shooting 39-over to finish 13 strokes ahead of second-place Pfeiffer. The event was contested in a torrential rain storm that led to flooding throughout upstate South Carolina.
"I am proud of the way our girls hung in there under very difficult conditions," said coach Ed Hoffmeyer. "For four of our players, it was their first collegiate tournament and because of the conditions, probably one they will never forget. I look for us to just get better as the year progresses."
Freshman Sarah Johnson was the Lions second best performer, with a 25-over 97 to finish in 18th. Jacqueline McCormick and Lindsey Ball finished 22nd and 23rd respectively.
Mars Hill will compete in a Tri-Match with Bryan and Milligan in Elizabethton, Tenn. on Thursday, Sept. 20.
