Lions Finish In Tenth At SAC Championships
MONROE, N.C. – The Mars Hill women’s golf team concluded the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championships in 10th place on Tuesday, April 12 at the Monroe Country Club.
MONROE, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's golf team concluded the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championships in 10th place on Tuesday, April 12 at the Monroe Country Club. The Lions remained steady after the first day of action, although each day the team posted better overall results.
Sarah Johnson continued her stellar play for the weekend as she shot a team-low 74 (+2) on the afternoon, including a one-under, 35, on the back nine. Emma Lundvall collected the three-day overall low for the team after posting a 76 (+4) on the final day. Lundvall's total for the tournament was 242 (+26), good enough for a tie for 23rd place. Johnson was just behind her in a tie for 37th place with a total of 248 (+32).
Raven Brown picked up seven strokes from her second-round total, shooting a final round of 82 (+10) after going even-par on the back nine. Victoria Barrett rounded out the top four golfers for the Blue and Gold following her final round, 89 (+17). Both Barrett and Brown came in a tie for 50th place with a three-day total of 261 (+45).
Queens University took home the conference championship, outlasting Carson-Newman. The Eagles were able to beat the Royals in the final round by a total score of 311 to 313, but the Royals' three-day total bested C-N by four strokes (938 to 942). The Royals' Grace Glaze took home the individual championship with a total score of 223 (+7), while Lenoir-Rhyne's Abbey Hartsell finished second, just one shot behind Glaze at 224 (+8).
