MARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill freshman Janie Gooch set a school record at the Pfeiffer Spring Invitational for lowest two-day score at a tournament at the conclusion of Tuesday's final round.
Gooch shot a total score of 148, five strokes better than the university's previous mark. The Raleigh native shot a first round score of 73, putting her +1 entering the second round. The first round total tied the school record for lowest opening round score.
In the second round, securing her fourth place finish, Gooch shot a 75 to end the tournament shooting +4 over the two days. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
"I am very proud of Janie," Mars Hill head golf coach David Pennell said. "This was her second All-Tournament Team honor of the season."
Gooch has been the top finisher for the Lions in every tournament they have played in during the 2017-18 campaign including three top-10 finishes, two in the last two tournaments. She has placed fourth twice and sixth at the recent Mars Hill University Spring Invitational.
"She works hard in the classroom and on the course. We are very fortunate to have her at Mars Hill," Pennell said.
