Mars Hill downed by North Greenville
The Mars Hill (2-10) women's lacrosse team lost 14-11 to North Greenville (11-4) Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill (2-10) women's lacrosse team lost 14-11 to North Greenville (11-4) Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Starting the second half down 7-6, Mars Hill tied the game just 2:08 into the half with a goal from Victoria Eckard. Three minutes later, the Crusaders would regain the one-goal advantage with a goal from Rachel Kellogg, her second of the game. Less than a minute later, Jillian Cheisa's third of the game put North Greenville up 9-7. The teams would trade goals back-and-forth throughout the half before two late goals from the Crusaders extended their lead to three. From the 8:28 mark to 19:08, Mars Hill's goal scorers included Kiersten Foust, Eckard and Olivia Hokanson. North Greenville's Cheisa and Monica Colwell tallied.
With less than ten minutes remaining, the Lions were outscored 3-1 and fell 14-11 in non-conference play.
After the first 6:22 of the game, the teams were tied at two. With 19:29 left in the first half, a goal from Rebecca Dallman gave the Lions their first and only lead of the night. The goal was answered 23 seconds later by Beth Farrell and followed by two more Crusaders' goals to give North Greenville a 5-3 lead with 14:29 elapsed in the half.
Mars Hill would go on to score three of the final five goals in the half. Hokanson, Foust and Scout Black recorded goals down the final stretch.
Hokanson (5g) led the Lions with five points. Molly Tobias and Gabby Gianikos each had three assists. Cheisa (4g) and Aly Estes (2g, 2a) each had four points for the Crusaders. Kellogg had three goals in the contest.
Sydney Taylor stopped six shots for the win. Alexandria Holleran made six saves in the loss.
The Lions play their final home game of the year on Saturday, April 14 versus Coker. Olivia Hokanson and Adasia Bradshaw will be honored prior to the 5:30 p.m game for Senior Day recognition.
