Mars Hill selected eighth in SAC preseason poll
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse program was selected eighth in the 2019 South Atlantic Conference preseason poll, as announced Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens Royals and the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears have been selected as the 2019 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse preseason favorites, the league office announced today. The Royals received five first-place votes from the conference's head coaches, while the Bears collected the remaining four, tying the two at 68 points.
Queens and Lenoir-Rhyne tied with 68 points apiece, with the Royals collected five first-place votes and the Bears earning the remaining four. Wingate placed third with 55 points, while Catawba finished just behind in fourth with 53 points. Tusculum (43), Lincoln Memorial (38), and Coker (31) came in fifth through seventh. Rounding out the preseason poll were Mars Hill and Newberry in the No. 8 and No. 9 spots with 22 and 18 points, respectively.
The South Atlantic Conference also announced its preseason all-conference honors. On the first-team at the attack position were Faith Kent from Coker, Hanna Scott from Queens, Gabby Sousa from Lenoir-Rhyne, and Kendall Wells from Wingate.
The first-team midfielders were Lenoir-Rhyne's Rachel Elmore, Lincoln Memorial's Amara Moss, Queens's Katie Wardle, and Catawba's Nicole Hunt.
Queens's Cammy Case, Lincoln Memorial's Zoe Zervos, Wingate's Sierra Street, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Madison Prkna were each named as defenders on the first-team.
Chase Brokaw of Queens finished up the list of preseason first-team honorees, as she was named the first-team goalie.
The 2019 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse season is set to begin on Saturday, Feb. 2. The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship is set for April 23, 26 and 28 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals at Wingate University.
