Mars Hill opens 2020 season with dominant win over Converse
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-0) opened their 2020 campaign with an emphatic 18-3 win over Converse (0-1) Wednesday night.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-0) opened their 2020 campaign with an emphatic 18-3 win over Converse (0-1) Wednesday night inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Tina Fabrizio opened the scoring on the night with her first career goal just 3:15 into the contest. The Valkyries' Cassidy O'Neill answered over six minutes later to knot the game up at one. Just over thirty seconds later, the Lions would begin a 12-0 run, led by Alexa Tazzetta's first of the season. During the run, Tazzetta recorded all four of her goals and added an assist.
Kiersten Foust recorded two goals and one assist in the run while Fabrizio netted two more goals. Maria Fabrizio added one goal and one assist.
Converse scored the first goal of the second half with O'Neill's second of the contest. Mars Hill strung together five straight goals, led by Maria Fabrizio's two.
The Lions collected 27 groundballs and 18 draw controls on the night while outshooting the Valkyries 31-10. Both Maria Fabrizio and Foust ended the night with three goals and three assists apiece while Tazzetta led all players with four goals.
Mars Hill returns to action on Sunday, February 9 with a road contest versus Lee. First draw is set for 2 p.m.
