Women’s Soccer Wins at LMU
Martin Breaks Two Records
HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lions' women's soccer team defeated Lincoln Memorial University 2-1 on the road Wednesday afternoon. Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) broke Mars Hill's career goals scored record and the school record for career points scored. The Lions improved to 9-5-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fell to 10-5 on the season and 3-5 in the league.
Martin scored the first goal in the match at the 22:44 mark on a
breakaway. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Samantha Meek tied the match at the 74:54 mark when her shot
glanced off the cross bar and past the Lions' keeper. The goal was
assisted by Sarah Taylor. The teams carried the 1-all tie through
regulation.
Martin then notched the match winner at the 104:30 mark of the second overtime period to propel the Lions to victory. She scored on another breakaway. Her two scores today take her career record totals to 39 goals and 92 points.
LMU outshot the Lions, 24-6. The Railsplitters edged MHC in corner kicks, 7-6 . LMU was called off sides twice while the Lions were whistled off sides on one occasion.
Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played all 104:30 minutes in goal for MHC and made 12 saves. Sarah Thompson also played the entire contest in the net for LMU and made one save.
The Lions will host Young Harris College on Friday in Mars
Hill's annual senior night match. The contest is set to begin at 5
