Women’s Soccer Defeats Tusculum in Overtime
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team defeated the visiting Pioneers of Tusculum College 2-1 in overtime at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the SAC. The Pioneers fell to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Salem Woody (Apex, N.C.) finished a shot sent in by Caity Murnahan (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) for the match winner at the 90:54 mark of the first overtime period. The win was the first overtime victory of the year and the second overtime match of the season.
Michelle Meade (Greeneville, Tenn.) scored the first goal of the match to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage at the 20:12 mark. She found the back of the net from around 10 yards out. The goal was assisted by Colleen Maloney (Houston, Texas). The teams took that score into the locker room at the intermission.
Misha Price (Cary, N.C.) tied the match at 1-all off a rebound sent in by Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.). The tying goal was scored at the 55:02 mark.
Tusculum out shot MHC, 17-12. The Lions edged the Pioneers in corner kicks, 4-2. Both teams were called offsides once.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Catawba College Saturday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
