Women’s Soccer signs three players for 2011
MARS HILL, N.C. - McKay Sharpe, Grace Lancaster and Lindsey Ingwersen have committed to play for the Mars Hill women's soccer program in the fall of 2011, head coach Ken Miller announced.
Sharpe is a midfielder/defender from Dreher High School in Columbia, S.C. She also plays for the CESA 92 Girls Premier club team out of Greenville, S.C., which won the 2010 South Carolina State Championship and was a Region III Premier League participant from 2007-10 and an Elite Clubs National League participant in 2010.
"McKay is a versatile player who can play as an outside midfielder or outside back," Miller said. "We are very excited about McKay joining our program this upcoming fall. She plays for the top club in South Carolina. She is an athletic and technically solid player, who combines well with other players, and has the ability to get up and down the flank."
Sharpe was a three-year starter at Dreher High School which won a regional championship in 2008. Last season, she was the team's leading goal scorer.
Off the field, Sharpe is a member of the National Honor Society and is a 2010 Dreher High School Scholar. She plans to major in special education at Mars Hill.
"McKay is an excellent student and her character and ambitions
are exactly the qualities we are looking for to enhance the our
team's quality and help us achieve our team goals and
ambitions," Miller noted, adding, "We look for McKay to come in and
compete for playing time as either an outside back or outside
midfield."
Lancaster is a defender from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg
S.C., and teammate with Sharpe on the CESA 92 Girls Premier club
team.
"Grace is an excellent and commanding center back," Miller commented. "We are thrilled Grace is going to be a future Mars Hill player. Grace possesses the necessary attributes to be a successful center back for Mars Hill College. She is composed, makes quality passes from the back line, a solid 1 v 1 defender, has the ability to get involved in the attack, and tremendous leadership qualities."
Lancaster was a two-year captain at Spartanburg High School. She was voted All-Region in 2009.
Off the field, Lancaster is a member of the Spartanburg High School academic excellence program, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. She plans to major in zoology at Mars Hill.
"Grace excels academically and her character and ambitions are a
perfect fit for our team," Miller said. "We are excited and
confident that Grace will help our team achieve our goals. We look
for Grace to come in and compete for playing time as a center
back."
Ingwersen is a midfielder from Milton High School in Alpharetta,
Ga. She also plays for the Roswell Santos and ODP Super-Y for
Alpharetta United club teams. Her Alpharetta United club team was a
national semifinalist in 2009.
"Lindsey is an attacking center mid who has the ability to execute a wide array of passes," Miller said. "We are delighted Lindsey has decided to be a part of our program. She played for Roswell Santos and was a key player in their team's success and accomplishments. Lindsey has great vision and the ability to help the team transition from a defensive to attacking mindset."
Ingwersen was a three-year member of the varsity team at Milton High School. The team competed in the regional playoffs in 2009 and 2010.
Off the field, Ingwersen is the Milton High School yearbook sports' editor and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Educators of America. She plans to major in elementary education at Mars Hill.
"Lindsey is a great student and her character blends well with our team," Miller commented, adding, "We look forward to having Lindsey come in and compete for playing time as an attacking mid in our formation."
Mars Hill will opens the 2011 regular season at home on September 1 against Tennessee Wesleyan.
