Women’s Soccer Defeats Montreat, 2-0
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill's women's soccer team scored a pair of early goals to defeat visiting Montreat College 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic CeWomennter and Meares Stadium. The Lions improved to 2-1 on the season while the Cavaliers fell to 0-4 on the year.
Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) scored the first goal of the match at the 19:40 mark. The goal was assisted by Salem Woody (Apex, N.C.). Six minutes later (25:30), Martin passed the ball to Caity Murnahan (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) who found the back of the net form 20 yards out. MHC took the 2-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The defenses were stingy in the second frame as neither side could score any additional goals.
The Lions out shot Montreat, 18-5 and edged the Cavaliers in corner kicks, 5-1. MHC was called offsides seven times in the contest. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played the entire match in goal for MHC and made two saves. Caroline Mellerd also played 90 minutes in the net for Montreat and made seven saves.
Mars Hill will play at Coker College on September 15. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
